2010 SHAWNY Scholarship Contest

It’s that time of year!!!  This year, the Speech-Language-Hearing Association of Western New York (SHAWNY) is pleased to offer two $1000.00 scholarships to assist students in the Western New York area who are working towards a degree in speech-language pathology or audiology.  One scholarship will be awarded to an undergraduate senior speech-language pathology or audiology student and a second scholarship will be awarded to a current graduate student. 

Applicants should meet the following criteria:

• Senior undergraduates applying to graduate school OR current graduate students in the areas of speech-language pathology or audiology (including final semester graduate students, as the award may be applied to professional fees or student loans).

• Student must currently attend one of the following regional schools:  Buffalo State College, SUNY Fredonia,  or the University at Buffalo

• Must be a SHAWNY student member (you may join at this time for a fee of $15.00- see enclosed application form if needed).

• Participation in a final interview if deemed necessary by the scholarship committee.

The scholarship will be awarded based on leadership, community involvement, clinical experiences (weighed heavier for graduate applicants), an essay, academic performance, and additional experiences.  The scholarship recipients will be notified in mid-April.  This year’s scholarship award is a one-time payment of $1000.00 to one undergraduate and one graduate recipient.  Winners will be presented with the scholarships at the SHAWNY Banquet on May 4, 2010. 

**The deadline for this scholarship is March 29, 2010. This includes all scholarship application materials, letters of recommendation, official transcripts, etc.  There are no exceptions!
