Dear fellow Speech and Language Pathologists!
Allow me to introduce myself if you do not already know me. My name is Christine Buscaglia. I have been a Shawny member for over 30 years. Last year, I lost my 34 year old niece, Jennifer Neill, and her unborn son in the Flight 3407 that burst into flames in Clarence, New York. The anniversary of this tragedy is Friday, February 12, 2010.
One of the most painful things we have learned is that this crash was avoidable. It was neither mechanical nor weather related. The crash was a result of poor training, pilot fatigue and unfamiliarity with safety equipment that would have saved the plane and all the 51 passengers.
Briefly, Colgan Airlines failed to have the highest standards for their pilots in regards to salary, knowledge of skills and general fatigue management with their grueling schedules. Several pilots had an "easy ride" to become captains well before they were qualified with an adequate number of flying hours! However, lack of training and fatigue are endemic in the regional airline industry.
This past year, all of the Flight 3407Families have joined together to push Congress to enact common sense changes. Today we are asking for your help. Please join us in lobbying Congress and the White House in support of aviation safety laws that are needed and long overdue.
You will be supporting our fight by going to our website between 2/12 and 2/14 at www.3407memorial.com and subscribing to our email list. It is a very simple task and we are hoping to get 10K names!
At our website, you will also find out about the families efforts thus far and what we still have to do!
IF POSSIBLE, PLEASE ASK YOUR FRIENDS/FAMILY TO SUBSCRIBE TO THIS WEBSITE AS WELL.
EMAIL TO AS MANY CONTACTS AS POSSIBLE AND ASK THEM TO DO THE SAME!
To quote Margaret Mead......."Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed people can change the world; indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."
This will be such an honor to my deceased niece and her baby boy.
I thank each and everyone of you from the bottom of my heart!
Sincerely,
Christine Buscaglia SLP CCC NYS-L
